Major Projects

Each project below containing an “*” is required for completion of the course. Any one of these projects that is not completed will result in an “F” for the course unless individual arrangements are made at the instructor’s discretion.

*Tree of Influence 5%

The Tree of Influence is actually a web which will branch out with names and information about the topic. This project will be connected to the second film review. Pick any film of interest to you. After watching the film research it (why it was created, etc.). Research the writer. What other films has he/she written/created, why? What is the goal of this artist’s work? The Tree of Influence will be presented in a prezi. Information about prezi can be found online at www.prezi.com. I will present tutorials to aid in developing your prezi.

The completed Tree of Influence must contain:

  • At least 30 influences on the film/influences the film has had on other works, people, etc. These include events, people, art, films, etc.
  • A brief statement about each influence and the source of information for each influence.
  • Photographs and video content are optional and can add style to the over-all presentation

Wikipedia is not an acceptable source for the works cited and will be treated as plagiarism.

Words and phrases that stimulate the mind's ability to imagine sensory responses

Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906)

Sympathy

    I KNOW what the caged bird feels, alas!
When the sun is bright on the upland slopes;
When the wind stirs soft through the springing grass,
And the river flows like a stream of glass;
When the first bird sings and the first bud opes,
And the faint perfume from its chalice steals —
I know what the caged bird feels!

    I know why the caged bird beats his wing
Till its blood is red on the cruel bars;
For he must fly back to his perch and cling
When he fain would be on the bough a-swing;
And a pain still throbs in the old, old scars
And they pulse again with a keener sting —
I know why he beats his wing!

    I know why the caged bird sings, ah me,
When his wing is bruised and his bosom sore,—
When he beats his bars and he would be free;
It is not a carol of joy or glee,
But a prayer that he sends from his heart's deep core,
But a plea, that upward to Heaven he flings —
I know why the caged bird sings!
